1. Clean the Lenses

The first step to clean and maintain our safety glasses is by cleaning the lenses. Let me share with you some ways that you can use to clean your safety glasses lenses.

Microfiber Cloth

Cleaning your safety glasses lenses with a microfiber cloth will prevent scratching them and he will remove all the dust and dirt from them. Microfiber cloth usually comes with the safety glasses when you buy them or you can get them from the local optical or online.

Eyeglasses Lens Cleaner

Eyeglasses lens cleaner is effective when it comes to lens cleaning. They remove all sorts of dirt from the lenses. It is easy to use but before using it please read the instructions on the back to make sure if they can be used on lenses with AR coating or any others. Just spray a couple of sprays on the front and back of the lenses and then wipe clean with the microfiber cloth.

Dish Soap

Yes, you can use Dish soap to clean the lenses. The good thing about the Dish soap is its ability to remove skin oil and other types of dirt from the lenses. Before I tell you how to use it please remember that too much cleaning using dish soap will wear away the lens coating, you can use soap once a month.

Use a single drop of the soap on the front and back of the lens then use your fingers to rub it and then rinse the lenses with warm (not hot) water.

Local Optical Wash

If your safety glasses are so dirty in the lenses and the frame and you don’t have time to clean them, then you can go to the local optical. They have special cleaning devices that remove all the dirt from the glasses.

2. Clean the Frame

Clean the Frame of your safety glasses

Cleaning the frame is the second step. Dirty frames will not make any difference, to be honest with you. But you will look professional and clean. Safety glasses frames need to be cleaned using a soft bristles toothbrush. While you’re cleaning the frame be careful as it can scratch the lenses.

After you brush the frame, if the dirt is not removed you can use dish soap with the brush and warm water to remove all sorts of dirt and debris.

3. Store Your Safety Glasses

Store Your Safety Glasses - protective case

This step is the most important one to keep your safety glasses clean and safe. After cleaning the lenses and the frame now it’s time for storage. Safety glasses should be stored in a protective case or microfiber eyewear pouch with a hard exterior away from anything that can scratch or break them.

And finally, make sure that you establish a cleaning routine after each workday or each athletic activity that requires you to wear your safety glasses.

The Things to Avoid While Cleaning Your Safety Glasses

  • Do not touch the lenses with your hand. Always use Microfiber Cloth.
  • Do not use any other fabric like your shirt fabric to clean the lenses.
  • Do not put your safety glasses on the nose bridge or lens.

All those steps that I share with you should be done daily, inspect your safety glasses each morning or before you use them to make sure they are clean and ready to be used. If the lenses are heavily scratched or broken then you should replace them.
